Date: 13 & 20 July 2018
Location: Taman Tugu Nursery
We hosted about 50 children between the ages of 7 – 11 from Dignity for Children Foundation to plant shrubs and smaller plants along the Taman Tugu Forest Trails.
Dignity for Children Foundation is an NGO with the objective to provide holistic education to children from lower -socioeconomic background and refugee children.
The children arrived at the Taman Tugu Nursery full of spirit and gleeful energy and wanted to get straight into the planting activity. We started with a quick breakfast and a ‘get-to-know-you’ session with the children followed by a guided tour of the forest trail.
Subsequently, the children were given the freedom to select the plants they wanted to plant in the forest trails from the Taman Tugu Nursery.
The children’s contagious energy quickly spread throughout the team, although it depleted faster for us.
The session ended with lunch and a debrief of Taman Tugu and the forest trail activity. Despite the tiring activity, the children still had much energy and couldn’t wait to go home with their souvenirs to tell their family about the exciting day they had and what they learnt. One thing they have learnt, is that it takes a lot of hard work and patience to plant, even smallest plants, and plants are extremely important for us to live.
It was our great pleasure to host the children and get them involved in developing the park; after all the park is for them and the generations to come.
