Mempening trees in Taman Tugu
The Mempening tree is an indigenous rainforest tree amongst the 4,100 trees added to the Taman Tugu site, selected in collaboration with Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (“FRIM”) and Malaysian Nature Society (“MNS”).

Physical Features
The Mempening tree is a large-sized tree that can grow up to 42m tall and 86cm in diameter. The leaves are alternate in a simple arrangement. The leaves are penni-vein, glabrous with long petioles. The flowers are small, yellowish and placed in racemes. The fruits are acorn shaped with basal cupule.

There is no reported usage of this plant.

These trees are found In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree. These trees are native to Malaysia, Indonesia, and Borneo.
