Mencepu trees in Taman Tugu
The Mencepu tree is an indigenous rainforest tree amongst the 4,100 trees added to the Taman Tugu site, selected in collaboration with Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (“FRIM”) and Malaysian Nature Society (“MNS”).

Physical Features
The Mencepu tree is small-sized tree that can grow up to 10m tall. The leaves are oppositely arranged, dark green, ovate shaped with a smooth edges. The tree produces small red flowers emerging like jewels from the deep green branch tips, effusing sweet aroma. Its orange fruits have a pleasant taste, with an unusual sweet-sour flavored pulp.

The fruits are eaten locally.

These trees are found on low land forest and are native to Malaysia and Thailand.
