Mentiong Bukit trees in Taman Tugu
The Mentiong Bukit tree is an indigenous rainforest tree amongst the 4,100 trees added to the Taman Tugu site, selected in collaboration with Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (“FRIM”) and Malaysian Nature Society (“MNS”).
The Mentiong Bukit tree is small-sized tree that can grow up to 15m tall. The leaves are oppositely arranged and have an elliptic shape. The flowers have corolla tubes and placed at the branch twig tips. The flowers are yellow to intense orange as they mature and have a strong fragrance. The fruits are round, pale apple-green and split when ripe to expose many seeds in the orange to reddish pulp.
These trees are often used for ornamental plant.
These trees are found on hill and lowland forests and riverbanks. These trees are native to Malaysia and Singapore.
