Seraya Daun Lebar trees in Taman Tugu
The Seraya Daun Lebar tree is an indigenous rainforest tree amongst the 4,100 trees added to the Taman Tugu site, selected in collaboration with Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (“FRIM”) and Malaysian Nature Society (“MNS”).
It is a very large tree that can grow up to 70m tall and 220cm in diameter with prominent buttresses and bole that are branchless up to 18m high. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate, measuring about 6-9cm long and 2-3cm wide.
The timber is used in construction and furniture production.
These trees grow in deep dry soil on coastal hills and can be found in Malaysia and Singapore.
