Date: 12 January 2019
Location: Taman Tugu Nursery
As part of UOB Malaysia’s Heartbeat Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) programme, employees from the Commercial Banking team brought more than 70 children from 4 different homes to celebrate Chinese New Year early at Taman Tugu. They spent their Saturday morning exercising and playing various games at the Nursery followed by a guided forest walk. During the walk, they got a chance to get their hands dirty by planting forest cover. Forest cover is needed to further balance the ecosystem and stabilise the ground by holding the soil thus preventing erosion as well as absorbing excess water preventing the trails from being muddy.
The session ended with a buffet lunch at the Nursery and the children were further entertained with various games and acts.
The children enjoyed their time celebrating Chinese New Year in nature and left Taman Tugu with wide smiles and loads of laughter.
We hope that sessions like these will create a sense of ownership and care towards Taman Tugu and other green spaces and act as a platform for people to be exposed to nature and value it. These efforts are for them and we hope that by getting them to spend more time with nature, it will make them guardians of it.
We would like to express our heartiest gratitude to UOB Malaysia for their donation in support of the Taman Tugu Project and conservation of public green spaces.
