Site Visit by the Department Of Environment

Date: 17 October 2017
Venue: Taman Tugu park site

The Department of Environment (“DOE”) under the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment conducted an ad-hoc site inspection of the Taman Tugu Community Area where construction of a new Surau Jumaat, living quarters and a food stall area has commenced. The inspection is part of a regular procedure undertaken by DOE to ensure that Best Management Practices (“BMPs”) within the approved Environmental Management Plan (“EMP”) are adhered to.

The DOE was generally happy with compliance to BMPs but provided recommendations to ensure that the EMP is continuously adhered to – this includes the appointment of a full-time on-site resident environmental officer.

The Taman Tugu Project Team has taken the recommendation seriously and is in the process of employing a full-time on-site resident environmental officer who will be employed on-site to oversee the development of the park until full completion.
