CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad has contributed RM250,000 to Amanah Warisan Negara and Free Tree Society, through its first green savings account, EcoSave Savings Account-i. The contribution will be used to run the Taman Tugu Free Tree Society Nature Education Programme at Taman Tugu for a year, starting from November 2020.
Amanah Warisan Negara (better known as AWAN) is a national public trust established as part of the Taman Tugu Project. Incorporated in January 2018, the aim of this non-profit Trust is to own, manage, and protect Taman Tugu into perpetuity with a longer-term objective of undertaking other assets of heritage value and national significance.
Taman Tugu is a 66-acre rehabilitated and regenerated forest park in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The park currently has more than 5km of forest trails and is opened at no charge for members of the public to access from 7am-6.30pm daily. The last entry is at 5.45pm.
Free Tree Society (FTS) is an environmental organisation that spreads the environmental stewardship message by giving away trees for free to green our Earth. Since 2013, FTS has given away over 38,000 plants to homeowners, schools, marginalised groups, community gardens, and wildlife habitats to proliferate planting, to encourage biodiversity, and to promote a love of nature.
The Taman Tugu Free Tree Society Nature Education Programme sponsored by CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad is an outdoor classroom focusing on environmental awareness and education. The activities are hands-on and participants will learn about waste management, rainwater harvesting, propagation, gardening, and biodiversity.
The sponsorship is possible through CIMB Islamic Bank’s customers who save in the EcoSave Savings Account-i where CIMB Islamic Bank will contribute 0.2% of total portfolio average balance towards green initiatives. Customers can choose to open an EcoSave Savings Account-i at any CIMB Islamic branches which are co-located at CIMB Bank branches nationwide with a minimum deposit of RM250. Other than the indirect contribution towards green initiatives, there is a monthly RM5 cash incentive for customers who maintain a monthly average balance of RM5,000, without any over-the-counter transactions in the month.
The aim of this programme is to instill a sense of ownership and care towards the environment and nature and act as a platform for people to be exposed to nature and further understand our ecosystem and how we are all connected. These efforts are for the general public and we hope that by getting them to spend more time with nature, it will make them guardians of it.
The sessions are open to members of the public, schools, universities, and organisations.
Please follow Friends of Taman Tugu on Facebook or Instagram for the latest updates on the Taman Tugu Free Tree Society Nature Education Programme. If you would like to organise a private session, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Due to Covid-19, we have reduced the number of participants per session to help stop the spread of the virus.
Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad for their generosity and for giving us the possibility to extend this programme.
